Foods For Great Summer Nutrition

Fruits and vegetables are well-represented on our list of foods for great summer nutrition not only because of their health benefits but also because they are in-season during the summer months. A slice of watermelon, a handful of berries or a glass of iced tea. These are all classic summertime foods and they're also great choices to keep you healthy.

Eating more fruits and vegetables will help prevent you from developing any vitamin and mineral deficiencies but these are foods that also contain antioxidants and phytonutrients  which are compounds that may also help protect you against heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure and obesity, among other conditions. You need to have five or more servings of fruits and vegetables everyday and you can get it all alright because summer is the season for an abundance of fresh produce. 

A good local market situated near to the large Mercadona in Javea Old town is held on a Thursday selling fruit, vegetables and other local products. You can browse for all manner of things from fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and juicy Valencia oranges and 'churros' which are similar to donuts.

Tip on where to park on market day: Take the main road south of the old town . Direction port Avendia Palmela opposite school turn left Cami Tapies up the hill which leads to the underground parking Portal del Clot. You always find a parking there and this is not fat to the market. Sometimes market even begins there.
