Places To Go and See in Alicante, Spain

Explanada de España

One of the city’s emblems is the EXPLANADA DE ESPAÑA. Thanks to the pleasant climate, locals and visitors alike can enjoy these areas all throughout the year. It runs parallel to one of the port wharfs and it is lined with rows of palm trees on both sides. The floor is decorated with 6,600,000 red, blue and white marble tiles forming a design with a characteristic wave effect mosaic. Predominantly aimed at children and families, there are workshops, entertainment, children’s theatre, puppet shows, and etc.

Other gardens and parks worth visiting are:

La Ereta Park: At the foot of the Santa Bárbara Castle opposite El Postiguet beach located on the slopes of Mount Benacantil is La Ereta Park. Here you can follow an interesting route from the summit down to the old quarter in the city and it is also where you can enjoy unbeatable views of the city.

El Palmeral Park: Formed by a wooded area containing ponds, lakes, artificial streams and palm trees is El Palmeral Park which is one of the most spectacular parks in the city. It has pavilion where a regular programme of events is scheduled including activities such as puppet shows and children's theatre and all others. It also has a cross-country cycling track and sports facilities.

Canalejas: Alicante's one of the most traditional open spaces is Canalejas which has a spectacular lush of vegetation including several hundred-year old rubber plants measuring 20 metres high.

Gabriel Miró Square: This square is just a few meters from the seafront promenade and the Explanada that honours the Alicante writer of the same name. It has a monument in the form of a fountain centenary trees with luxuriant foliage, creating a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere.

Santa Barbara Castle
A highly recommended thing to do when you visit Alicante is a visit to the Santa Bárbara Castle.  It is one of the largest medieval fortresses in Spain located atop Mount Benacantil at a height of 166 metres. On clear days, you can see all the way to Tabarca Island and it has unbeatable views over the Bay of Alicante.

It was declared a Site of Cultural Interest and a Monument of Historic and Artistic Importance during the 20th century. Here we can also find one of the most characteristic images of the city such as the Moor’s Face which is a rock formation resembling a man’s profile on the south western slope and is best viewed from Postiguet Beach. Housing the housed in the Castle itself was the Museum of the city in Santa Barbara´s Castle “MUSA” which was include to its cultural offer and the history of the city of Alicante and their inhabitants are explained in its five theme rooms.

You can take the route through Parque de La Ereta to descend down from the Santa Bárbara Castle which is just along the mountainside. Its location and views transform it into a great meeting place as well as a great place of relaxation. On the way down to the old town quarter, you can find a spectacular restaurant. You can visit the quintessentially  and picturesque district of Spanish Santa Cruz. Walking along the remains of the walls that surrounded the Castle is another attractive option between the castle and the Santa Cruz district which now end in the Santa Cruz district.

And most of all, there's a lift built within the rockface opposite El Postiguet beach where visitors can also access the castle.

Tabarca Island

A visit to Tabarca island is another great thing to do when you are in the city of Alicante. It's only around one hour trip from Alicante and the journey will give you the opportunity to enjoy the coastline. There are several boats from Kontiki that depart from Alicante's marina several times a day during the summer months but you may need to confirm the timetables beforehand during low seasons.

The island has little hotels where you can stay if you decide to spend overnight on the island and for a great food, you can try one of those traditional fish stews on the terrace of one of the restaurants. But of course, there are also nice little bays to swim in.

Do you have any exciting places to add to the list? Why not share it with us!

Exploring Denia - Our Experience

A few of our friends don't understand why we pick Denia as our holiday destination over and over. They think we need to explore other places, but we believe there is no point in visiting other destinations when we already found heaven. For us, Denia truly is a heaven in disguise. Why is that? Because we have the opportunity to lay back and loosen up, enjoy the sun and the fantastic landscape, while our little ones delight in the many activities that Denia provides. How to make the most out of Denia? Well, every year we rent a different holiday villa in Denia, one that can welcome our entire family. It always looks great and it is inexpensive, that is why we always keep coming again.

When it comes to the ideal holiday, there is just no other place that will do. Each time we return there, it's like the very first time.

So what's so unique about Denia?

Describing only a few of the things we love about Denia could prove to be challenging, considering that there are so many. First off, there's the history. Denia is a small town in Alicante, Valencia, with an abundant history. Since it was a strategic port, it was the center of numerous conflicts over time. Romans, Muslims and Christians alike have fought in Denia. The piece de resistance in Denia is a fortress. Even though it was build a long time ago, it still stands as one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. The fortress walkway offers remarkable views and the collections in the palace museum are so terrific we would spend a lot of hours viewing them.

If history is not your thing, you need to know that there are also other ways to have a great time in Denia. For one, there is the remarkable beach, where our children enjoy a variety of sports and swim. We love to go to Punta del Raset, considering that it's one of those beaches that have sufficient activities to maintain our little ones occupied, which gives us time to relax.

Yet another of our favourite activities is riding horses. Just outside Denia there is a great riding school, named La Sella. We frequently go on family trips through the Montgo national park and we really love it!

As I mentioned before, we are so in love with Denia that we dread the day when the vacation ends and we have to go home. That is why we decided we need to make Denia our home and we began searching for a villa for sale in Denia close to town or beach.

Considering that our children finished their school cycles and me and my wife make a living from the comfort of our home, we decided it is time for a change. We do not have any close family in our current city, so we're free to move wherever our hearts take us.

In the last part of our last holiday, we started checking out the villas and properties that are available for sale in Denia. We were delighted to find out that compared to our home country, the houses were less expensive and had a lot more features.

For instance, for 330,000 Euros (just within our budget) we found a5 bedroom villa with its own large swimming pool, that looked more like a manor than a villa. The first thing that sold us was the fantastic swimming pool. It was around 10m by 5m, under-lit with a sizable pool-side area and refrigerated pool-side bar. The panorama from the pool is truly fantastic. We are already imagining the pool parties and barbecues we can have in the summer season. And with five bedrooms we would not have to modify any rooms to accommodate the whole family. Until now, this villa is our favorite and odds are it will be the one we choose.

For a much smaller price (165, 000), we spotted a modest villa in La Sella area, with a view of the sea and a golf course not far away. The downside is the space: it only has three bedrooms and the swimming pool is shared with other residents. But at almost less than half the price of the other villa it's almost convinced us to buy it and turn a few rooms into bedrooms.

We're far from a final decision and we are preparing a new visit to Denia to search for more villas. We are very excited about staying in Denia, it is going to be like a never-ending holiday for us!

Foods For Great Summer Nutrition

Fruits and vegetables are well-represented on our list of foods for great summer nutrition not only because of their health benefits but also because they are in-season during the summer months. A slice of watermelon, a handful of berries or a glass of iced tea. These are all classic summertime foods and they're also great choices to keep you healthy.

Eating more fruits and vegetables will help prevent you from developing any vitamin and mineral deficiencies but these are foods that also contain antioxidants and phytonutrients  which are compounds that may also help protect you against heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure and obesity, among other conditions. You need to have five or more servings of fruits and vegetables everyday and you can get it all alright because summer is the season for an abundance of fresh produce.

A good local market situated near to the large Mercadona in Javea Old town is held on a Thursday selling fruit, vegetables and other local products. You can browse for all manner of things from fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and juicy Valencia oranges and 'churros' which are similar to donuts.

Tip on where to park on market day: Take the main road south of the old town . Direction port Avendia Palmela opposite school turn left Cami Tapies up the hill which leads to the underground parking Portal del Clot. You always find a parking there and this is not fat to the market. Sometimes market even begins there.

They accordingly have a good number of rooms portioned absolutely for your very own benefit. Same goes with apartments. Falling In Love With Javea

Me and my wife had already been on a number of trips to the country of Spain, and that we really love the country, but we typically go to Andalusia. This year we fancied having an alternative and decided to book a holiday villa in Javea.

We are both so very happy simply because it showed that the area is a suitable place to stay. On the south east coast of Spain lies Xàbia or Javea (as it's often spelt) in the province of Alicante around Valencia. Javea is yet a lot more diverse place than you could ever imagine and without doubt, a well known vacationer getaway with plenty of places of interest. We understood that the majority of the respectable Spanish families have been staying in Javea, in their Spain holiday homes and we both finally feel absolutely more Spanish in this spot. So Spanish culture is very hospitable and wants to make certain that visitor feels cozy among them. The natives have really kept in tune with their past a little more than other parts of the country. That is why you will certainly feel at home as it provides that real sensation of experience and comfort to the holidaymakers and travellers.

Javea is known to have the best climate in the world. It's not quiet as hot as the southern tip of Spain being further up from the equator but the weather conditions are still incredibly hot. Here's the latest Javea weather forecast

Having an engineering of Mediterranean style and narrow cobbled streets bordered on both sides by old white-washed buildings, The area itself is just what exactly you'd expect to see. Additionally you can stroll around and be ecstatic of how perfectly beaches are as Javea offers you its 25 Km of beaches, a varied coastline of beaches and coves. Basically, the entire stretch of coast sure to impress you. You can roam around on foot or you can rent a bike. Anything that you would probably do to explore the town and to enjoy it's wonders, do it to your hearts content but we would suggest this place that is specifically worth seeing when you visit which is the Montgó Natural Park. Me and my wife are usually around the go for an adventure and are normally as much as creating precious and memorable moments while we're still young and when we never have kids but to worry about so under no circumstances did we miss the chance to walk up to the Montgó Mountain on our second day on foot! It is actually a real challenge as well as gentle walk to the summit, and it really is well worth performing so, at the top of the summit you can find some amazing views to behold. You will see both Denia and Javea from the summit. It's wise to carry lots of water and several lunch though as there's no eating places or food shops nearby and it takes a while to summit.

The "old town" part of Javea is also an incredibly good place you don't want to miss on your visit. It still has an old wall that was built to maintain out pirates, and there is a magnificent 14th century church to take a look around. In addition there are some great views of the complete enclave from the cliffs located each side of the town if you want to venture up them. They are an excellent destination to sit and enjoy a packed lunch.

Almost all of our week was spent in the encompassing countryside cycling or walking, visiting various shops in the town, scuba diving on the beach, lounging around in bars and on the sand and eating at Sofia's Restaurant (a wonderful little place on the Bay of Javea road). These are the good reasons why we're here.

We really liked our holiday so much that we have made a decision to move permanently and transfer there within the year or so, and the second part of our holiday was spent actually looking for a villa for sale in Javea. We still need to make an informed decision which villa would be the new home for us and there's quite a few of ideal villas for sale to choose from.

The town is relatively wealthy, as it's a very desirable location so there are villas that can reach a sale price in the several millions of Euros. We are not quite that well-off and had budget of around 300,000 Euros to spend (including selling our current home) but for that money what you can buy is outstanding. A an outstanding and a deluxe villa with a great mix of both classic Spanish architecture and contemporary is what we are attracted to a lavish. A fairly large private garden and swimming pool is included.

There's other villa which we are also thinking about. though it's not big but it's situated near to the canal and similarly priced. A lovely Javea villa with 2 beds offering breathtaking panoramic views of the enclave from spacious balcony situated in the Castellans area of Javea is however what we found which is exceptionally only half the price of the other two. And we can rather keep the other fifty percent and lease our existing place for for additional income. The thing is that it doesn't have swimming pool but we predict the balcony more than makes up for it.

The excitement of moving out here and having a new lifestyle is exceedingly unbearable we've fallen deeply and appreciate Javea, together with the shorelines, the countryside, the folks and the wonderful luxury villa rentals. All we have to do now is make a good investment upon which home we want (and can afford) and we'll be starting our new lives in quite possibly the most brilliant places on Earth.

Holiday Apartments and Villas in Javea, Costa Blanca Javea is one of the places that you can’t avoid visiting in Costa Blanca region of Spain.
